Birth Doula Support

If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it.

-John Kennel

How you remember your birth is important. Things may not always go according to plan. But, my goal is to ensure you and your partner can embark on this journey with the confidence and support you need, to feel listened to, to be empowered during childbirth, and to achieve a positive birth experience with a joyful welcoming of baby.

During pregnancy, we typically have up to two prenatal visits to get acquainted, prepare your birth plan and discuss your upcoming birth. Iā€™m happy to provide evidence-based resources and information to assist you in making choices that are right for you and your family. Our planning and preparation in the prenatal stage is to empower you to make informed choices during labour. If you have questions, concerns, or need a listening ear, I am on call 24/7 for you from the time of hire until your birth. Support is always available.

Once labour begins, I arrive when you decide you need doula support, at your home, hospital or birth centre. I can assist with comfort measures, techniques to assist in the progression of labour, encouragement, partner support and guidance, and physical and emotional support. I do not replace your partner, but encourage and support them in taking an active role in your birth experience as much as they feel comfortable, as well as step in when they need a break or are feeling overwhelmed. Supporting you is my priority, but when time permits, I am also able to capture photo and video of your birth if requested.

After baby arrives, I remain with you for 2 to 3 hours to assist with the first latch and breastfeeding or the feeding method of your choice, take photos and get you settled with your precious baby.

Within the first week, I come to your home to see how the birthing person, family and baby are doing, to discuss the birth, answer questions, and to get feedback from you about my role. I will provide a disk of photos and/ or videos as requested. I can also provide any additional resources needed and offer breastfeeding support.
